DADU — In a chilling display of state-sponsored lawlessness that has sent shockwaves through the province, the Sindh Police have once again crossed a red line that was once unthinkable in a civilized society.
The question echoing through the streets of Gharo today is simple yet haunting: Is this the Sindh that Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto fought for? Is this a land of laws, or a land of landlords and rogue uniforms?
The Raid That Shamed the Province
Earlier today, a massive police contingent led by DSP Mehar, Gul Hassan Thebo, stormed the peaceful village of Gharo. Their mission was to arrest suspects from the Sargani community. When the suspects were nowhere to be found, the police did not retreat. They did not file a report.
Instead, they violated the most sacred code of Sindhi culture—the Chadar and Chahardivari.
Eye-witnesses report that the police forcibly abducted two innocent young women from the Sargani community, effectively taking them as hostages. This “collateral arrest” is a blatant violation of the Constitution of Pakistan and a direct attack on the dignity of every Sindhi household.
“Following Orders”: The Silence of the High Command
When confronted by the distraught elders of the community, DSP Thebo reportedly shifted the blame upward, claiming he was acting on the direct orders of SSP Dadu, Saddam Hussain Khaskheli.
Our desk attempted to reach SSP Khaskheli multiple times for a statement. The phone rang, but no one answered. This silence is not just a missed call—it is a deafening message to the poor and middle class of Sindh: “You do not matter. Your daughters do not matter. We are above the law.”
A Betrayal of the Bhutto Legacy
The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has long campaigned on the slogan of “Roti, Kapra, aur Makaan” and the empowerment of the marginalized. Yet, under their watch, the police in interior Sindh have devolved into a force that uses women as bargaining chips.
- Is this the Sindh of the poor? No. This is a Sindh where the poor are hunted.
- Is this the Sindh of the middle class? No. This is a Sindh where the middle class lives in fear of the very people paid to protect them.
The Ultimatum: The Sargani Community Rises
The Sargani community has issued a final warning. They are not just demanding the return of their daughters; they are demanding the dignity of their people.
Protests are already being organized across the province. If these innocent women are not released immediately, a wave of demonstrations will hit the Press Clubs of:
- Karachi
- Hyderabad
- Larkana
- Mehar & Radhan
The community is also preparing to move a petition in the Sindh High Court to hold these officers accountable for what can only be described as state-sanctioned kidnapping.
The Bottom Line
If we allow the police to pick up our daughters today because they cannot find a suspect, whose door will they kick down tomorrow? This is not just a Sargani problem. This is a Sindh problem. This is a Pakistan problem.
