Israeli airstrikes across northern and central Gaza have resulted in the deaths of at least 22 Palestinians, according to medical and civil defense officials affiliated with Hamas. The strikes reportedly targeted five sites, including residential homes, and killed a senior Hamas commander, local sources confirmed.
Accusations of Ceasefire Breach:
- Israel’s Claim: The Israeli military stated the strikes were a response to an incident where an “armed terrorist” allegedly fired at IDF soldiers after crossing the “yellow line” (the border area under Israeli control). The office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later claimed Israel eliminated “five senior Hamas terrorists” in the response, accusing Hamas of violating the six-week-old ceasefire agreement.
- Hamas’s Response: Hamas denied the alleged border infiltration and accused the Israeli military of a “blatant breach” of the ceasefire deal, citing continued bombardment in eastern Gaza and a westward push of the “yellow line.”
The strikes hit heavily populated areas, including the Rimal area of Gaza City, as well as Deir al-Balah and Nuseirat camp in central Gaza, resulting in the deaths of multiple family members after two houses were targeted. Hamas has urged mediators and the US to intervene, warning that Israel is attempting to impose “new facts on the ground” and undermine the agreement.
